12 years ago a Croatian architect under the name of Nikola Bašić designed a 230-foot long organ that turns the flow of the waves into genuine music. Located in Zadar, narrow channels are carved into the steps that connect to over 35 organ pipes. As the waves crash against the steps underneath, the air pushes through the pipes making a completely organic, random and melodic sound. The melody is never the same as the waves come in at different speeds and sizes every time, giving you a totally unique experience every-time.
The sound can be described as haunting, uplifting or atmospheric! One thing’s for sure, it’s quite incredible what’s happening. The pipes were also awared the Ex-Aequo of the fourth edition of the European Prize for Urban Public Space.
